<p>Over the past 20 years or so I have seen many examples that lead me to believe it is the norm on the part of most business and IT managers to take the short term view rather than the long term view when solving problems.  There are many reasons for this having to do mostly with human nature and they appear to be systemic at all levels from executive leadership down to front line supervisors.  Although many different symptoms appear from short term thinking, I will limit my first installments to just two or three.</p>
